Ashley Hayward

Ashley Hayward, PhD, is a proud citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at the University of Winnipeg. Her interdisciplinary research spans, reproductive justice, the social determinants of health, and Indigenous health.

Committed to relational and community-led approaches, Ashley’s work is grounded in ethical, reciprocal partnerships that honour local priorities and collective accountability. She collaborates across sectors to support research that informs policy and practice while contributing to broader movements for health equity, justice, and systemic change.

Ashley is a wife and mother to two daughters, and family is central to her life and work. Outside of campus and community research, she can often be found rink-side cheering on her daughter who is a ringette and hockey goalie, spending time shopping or sharing Starbucks with her other daughter, or at home with her husband and two large dogs. These everyday moments ground her and reflect the relational values that shape both her personal life and scholarly work.
