Amanda Doherty-Kirby

Amanda Doherty-Kirby is a parent of six children with various diagnoses including, but not limited to ADHD, autism, episodic and chronic migraine, and a type of genetic diabetes. Trained as a biochemist, she has primarily been an at home caregiver for two decades. She completed the CanChild/KBHN/McMAster Family Engagement in Research course in the fall of 2020 and the FER Leadership Academy in the fall of 2022. Amanda is passionate about patient engagement and is partnering or has partnered on projects and within networks related to childhood disability, pain, engagement in research, clinical trials, rare disease, health data, knowledge synthesis and more. She shares her enthusiasm for engagement in research through presentations, sharing of resources, and administration of the Youth Engagement in Research (@youth_in_research) on Instagram. She is also an administrator for Facebook groups related to rare disease and has recently completed the LifTING & Sepsis Canada Health Research Training Programs as a patient partner trainee winning an award to create a resource for sepsis survivors. In her home on PEI, she was a member of a district advisory council for education for five years, currently volunteers with a local Home and School organization, and is in her second year as a member of the puppet ensemble for the River Clyde Pageant, a fabulous outdoor show reminiscent of authentic patient and family engagement.
