Sabine Laguë

Sabine Laguë (BSc (Honours), PhD, MD, FRCPC) is a UBC Pediatric Respirology Fellow at BC Children’s Hospital and Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension through the UBC Clinical Investigator Program. Her postdoctoral research is co-supervised by Dr. Angela Bates (University of Alberta) and Dr. Eric Austin (Vanderbilt University). Dr. Laguë is interested in the interplay between the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and addressing clinical and research knowledge gaps arising for pediatric conditions falling outside of the overt care of either subspecialty. Her postdoctoral research uses exercise and active living as a means of improving heart and lung health and quality of life for children and adolescents with pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Laguë is a lifelong learner and past Killam Laureate and Vanier Scholar. Prior to her MD she completed a UBC Ph.D. in Comparative Physiology, where she characterized the heart and lung function of high-altitude birds. Dr. Laguë completed her MD and pediatrics residency at UBC with research in pediatric pulmonary vascular disease, heart transplant, and pulmonary sequelae of congenital heart disease. She actively publishes and peer reviews in pediatric respirology, pulmonary vascular disease, and comparative physiology. Dr. Laguë is a passionate medical educator, with multiple undertakings in medical education, curriculum development, patient education conference leadership, and simulation education.

Outside of work Dr. Laguë is an avid musician, playing flute and piccolo with the Vancouver Pops Orchestra and Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble. She enjoys spending time with her young family, travelling, bullet journalling, being active outdoors, drinking tea, and reading novels.
